Commercial data aggregators are genuinely useful. They are also confidently wrong often enough that acting on an unverified export is a real risk when a deadline or a mailing obligation is involved.
Where aggregated data breaks
The failure modes are predictable once you have seen enough of them.
- Stale records presented without a clear date of last activity
- Two people with the same name merged into a single profile
- Addresses associated through a relative rather than the subject
- Mail-forwarding and commercial mailbox addresses shown as residences
- Unit numbers dropped from multifamily addresses
What verification adds
Verification tests each candidate against independent records: recorded transfers, entity filings, court records, and relationship indicators. A candidate that survives that comparison is reported with the basis for the conclusion; one that does not is reported as unsupported rather than quietly dropped.
The cost comparison worth making
Verification adds modest scope. A failed out-of-area service attempt, a missed statutory notice, or a re-filed pleading costs considerably more.
